  • Friday 15 November 2024 Isambard Kingdom Brunel It has been another fantastic week in Zebra Class. The children have especially enjoyed starting our brand new history topic, learning about the achievements of the famous Victorian engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. We looked at different sources of information and acted as inquisitive historians to find out as much as possible about him. We soon found out that sources of information from the past (photos, paintings, memorial plaques, statues) can tell us some information, but not everything we might want to know! The children cannot wait to visit the SS Great Britain next week, another one of Brunel's amazing masterminds.

We have classified different animals, looking at their common features and have thought about why they belong to different groups (fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, amphibians). We looked at whether animals are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores and also thought about what we like to eat as humans! We then became investigators had a series of clues to decipher to help us work out which animals had been inside and outside of our classroom

The children enjoyed looking at the portraits and moving the wooden man into the poses they could see. They then moved their own metal framed person into a pose and learnt how to cover it with mod-roc. The children listened well to the instructions and created some super sculptures.
