Happy New Year!
Welcome back to Term 3 and happy new year to you all!
On behalf of Mrs Channon, Miss McVeigh and I, please can we say such a big thank you for the lovely Christmas gifts and cards we received. We were very touched! We hope you all had a restful Christmas holiday.
This week has been Miss McVeigh's final week in school. You have probably noticed that baby McVeigh is almost ready to make an arrival in the world and we are all so excited to meet him! We would like to wish Miss McVeigh all the happiness in the world for the happy times ahead. She has promised to bring the baby into school to meet us all so we cannot wait.
You have probably noticed two lovely new faces in the classroom this week. We would like to welcome Miss Townsend and Miss Lloyd to our team. They will be working in Zebra Class whilst Miss McVeigh is on maternity leave and the children have made them feel very welcome.
This week, in our topic sessions, we have been thinking about seasonal change and winter. The weather has definitely been very cold, snowy, icy and typically wintery! The children have enjoyed looking at the signs of winter outside, what happens to the trees, why animals hibernate and what is appropriate clothing for the season. We collected winter twigs and made our own fabulous pictures of winter trees.
In English, we have started reading the book, The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. We have been making predictions based on the front cover.! We have also thought about homophones. These are the words that sound the same but are spelt differently, such as:
eye/ I
tail/ tale
son/sun
two/ to/ too
new/ knew
knight/ night
Can you think of any more?
In Maths, we have been thinking about related addition facts and what do we already know that can help us find answers? We have been using Base 10 to support us.
We have had great fun in Music learning some new songs and exploring the different instruments. I was fascinated to discover that we have some very musical parents amongst Zebra Class! Next week, the children will be making their own musical instrument so thank you for the materials you have kindly brought into school already.
Next week….
