  • Friday 7 March 2025 Friday 7th March Run, run, as fast as you can, you can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread man! This week we started Drawing Club and our focus text was The Gingerbread Man. In Drawing club the children learn new vocabulary and add actions to help them understand the meaning of the words. This week we had sleek, sly, scamper, delicious, pursue, bellow, astonished and halt. The children then draw a picture linked to a character, setting or adventure. The last stage of Drawing club is to add a code. The code then makes something happen. For example on our adventure day, the children drew their ideas for how to help the Gingerbread Man cross the river without getting wet or being eaten by the sly fox. They had lots of different ideas, including building him a raft and helping him to fly over the river. The children have then written their own codes, such as 'up and away' to make the magic happen.

  • Friday 28 February 2025 We are inspired! It was lovely to welcome everyone back this week and to begin our fantastic new art topic on Georgia O'Keeffe. We have learnt that she was an American artist who took her inspiration from natural objects around her. So we decided to try and take our inspiration from natural objects in our environment. We then used the leaves we collected to practice our sketching and shading skills. Georgia O'Keeffe also loved to use bold vibrant colours to paint her pictures, so we then looked at painting by recognising the three primary colours and using them to create secondary colours.

We started the unit by looking at some of Georgia's art work and discussed what we liked/disliked about her paintings. Then we chose a piece of her work and used our sketching skills to have a go at copying it. On Wednesday, we looked at colour mixing and discovered that when you mix primary colours together you can make secondary colours. The primary colours are red, yellow and blue. Take a look at the photos to see what happened when we mixed them.

This week, it has been all about balanced, healthy eating and we enjoyed tasting different fruits at the beginning of the week. The children tried red grapes, white grapes, pomegranate, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries and cherries. We talked about the different tastes and whether we could spot seeds/stones inside. Many of us had never tasted pomegranate but we enjoyed it very much. The children then went on to design and make a healthy fruit salad. They practised their chopping, grating and slicing skills and I think we definitely have many chefs in the making!
