  • Friday 28 March 2025 Terrific Trains Trees and Tally Charts What an exciting week it s been beginning with our class trip on Monday to Warminster park. We started with a terrific train ride, which was very exciting as some of us have never been on a train before. Panda Class did an amazing job of walking all of the wat to the station, then from the station to the park, around the park and back again. It was a really long way for little legs but a great lesson in stamina and determination! At the park we continued our learning all about deciduous and evergreen trees, we looked at wildflowers and had an opportunity to help the park keeper sew some seeds. The children are good at spotting clues if a tree or shrub is evergreen. They know the leaves may be thick and waxy, or thin and spiky like needles. And of course a trip to a park is not complete without a good fun play on the swings, climbing frames and slides.

We waited very patiently and then got on the the train. It was fun looking out of the window and watching the fields zoom past. When we got to Warminster we walked very well to the park and then we were able to look around at the different plants we could find. We walked around the lake and compared the trees remembering which were evergreen and those that were deciduous.

  • Friday 21 March 2025 Friday 21st Another great week here in Wallaby class! This week we went back in time for drawing club and enjoyed the animation ‘Bananaman’. The children absolutely loved it and enjoyed creating their own new fruit themed character, drawing a secret house for Bananaman and coming up with what Dr Gloom’s ray gun might turn their character into. They are continuing to work really hard on their letter formation, using finger spaces between words and using Fred talk to help them spell. In maths, we have been looking at number bonds to 10 using 3 parts. We then moved onto doubles by finding doubles to 10 and making doubles to 10. The children found using double sided counters a great visual in making doubles to 10. By the end of the week we began to explore odds and evens and the numberblocks really helped us with this. We had fun creating odds and evens monster pictures to show our understanding.

We have been investigating how plants grow and have created our own experiment where we are exploring if it is possible to grow a broad bean in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel. You have probably noticed these on our classroom door. We are observing the bean seeds closely every day, looking for small changes in their germination journey. We have also investigated what grows in our school grounds. We spotted daffodils, thistles, primroses, nettles, blossom trees, apple trees, pansies, hyacinths....and even bamboo!

Also on Friday, we 'visited' Africa, looking at how varied and beautiful the continent is. The children enjoyed learning some African dance moves and had a go at drumming. They also had the chance to explore some artifacts. Throughout the week, they also spent time making a collage, overlapping different textures and designs of paper, before showing off their ever improving cutting skills to add a creature in the foreground. In Drawing Club, the children listened to the story of 'Handa's Surprise', drawing three different adventures and learning eight new words!
  • Friday 14 March 2025 Artistic Leopards! We have now finished our art topic- looking at the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. Using their knowledge of colour mixing the children painted their close-up flower sketches this week. Then, the children did their final write up of everything they learned about the artist and finally, we used our skills to sketch flowers from images.
