Giraffe Class Blog (Y1/2)
Welcome to our new blog for 2024-25! We hope to share all the wonderful things we are learning about in Year 1 and 2.

Our Class teachers are Mrs S. Russam and Mrs G. Hughes (every Friday). Our teaching assistants are Miss L. Dight and Mrs A. Clay.
We have indoor PE every Friday and outdoor PE every Wednesday, children need to come to school on Wednesday and Friday in their PE kit please.

Friday 7 March 2025 Fish sitters! Doesn’t it make such a difference when the sun shines! It has made everyone more cheerful than usual! This week Giraffe class have welcome 4 new fish to the class. We are looking after them and have to make sure we feed them each morning.

Friday 28 February 2025 Welcome Back to Term 4 Welcome back to Term 4 in Giraffe Class. Hopefully you had a restful break and haven’t been too blown away by the half term weather. We are all looking forward to the sunshine, fingers crossed!

Friday 7 February 2025 Fruit Salad! The ‘gemometer’ in Giraffe class is close to exploding with the great work that has been happening this week. The writing has been amazing and so has all the fantastic number work.

Friday 31 January 2025 Tasty Treats!! If your child has come home buzzing about London then the reason is all because of our English topic. It leads on from us exploring the UK and for the next 2 weeks there is a huge focus on London. We have been looking at the different landmarks, bridges and looking at the general hustle and bustle of the city. This will lead us on to writing a non-chronological report. Friday 24 January 2025 Maths and Computing It has been another week of fun and laughter in Giraffe Class. We have all been working as part of a team to fill our gem jar to help us earn rewards. It has been amazing to see how teamwork is bringing us closer together.

Friday 17 January 2025 Music and Computing It’s been another busy week in Giraffe Class and the children are positively blooming. They are absolutely excelling in everything they do and are taking real pride over everything they do.

Friday 10 January 2025 Welcome Back Giraffe Class What a fabulous start back to the term. Christmas seems such a distance memory, however, the children have come back excited and ready to learn, they all seem to have grown over the holiday!

Thursday 19 December 2024 Happy Christmas! It has been the most magical week in Giraffe Class. We have finished off making our Christmas cards as part of our DT topic. All of the cards had a hinge join, lever and pivot. The children worked really hard at decorating them and working independently.

Thursday 12 December 2024 It's a Baby! Christmas is in full swing in school and the children are enjoying every moment of it.

Wednesday 4 December 2024 DT Levers It has been a wonderful start to December. The kindness elves have arrived in class and have been keeping an eye on us ready to report back to the North Pole.

Thursday 28 November 2024 Shapes! What a wonderful week it has been. The weather has certainly turned a bit chilly. Please can you make sure that the children have a coat and jumper in school each day.

Thursday 14 November 2024 Maths and History! It has been another fantastic week in Giraffe Class. The children are really settled and are doing some absolutely fantastic learning.

Friday 18 October 2024 Labels Everywhere! This week has begun by looking at our new book Superworm which we have loved joining in with, listening to the rhyming words and acting out being the different characters.

Friday 11 October 2024 Giraffe Scientists! We have continued this week with our work on Monkey Puzzle and have been retelling the story in our own words using our super writing skills. We are getting so good at forming our sentences and using finger spaces. The whizzy Year 2 children are adding in lovely detail to stop us from falling asleep when we are reading!

Friday 4 October 2024 Monkey Puzzle! The children seem to have grown up over the weekend and have returned to school like they’ve been in the class for ages.

Friday 27 September 2024 What a trip! What a soggy week we have had! The rain has not stopped the learning in Giraffe Class.

Friday 20 September 2024 What a busy week! We have had another fantastic week in Giraffe Class. The children are in an excellent routine and they are more establish with the expectations of the class.

Friday 13 September 2024 All about Art! Wow! What a week it has been in Giraffe Class. We have been so busy establishing our routines and beginning lots of our new learning.

Friday 19 July 2024 Happy Holidays! It is hard to believe that we have come to the end of the year. It has been wonderful to watch the children grown and prepare them for their next adventure, wherever it may be!

Friday 12 July 2024 PE Fun! It’s hard to believe that the end of term is so close. We are keeping up with the routines in class but also having a lot of fun as well!

Friday 5 July 2024 All about the cars! This week has been all about the construction of the cars. The children have been amazing at following their designs to create their own moving cars.

Friday 28 June 2024 Computing and Axles! After finishing our History topic about cars, we have moved onto looking at how cars are made in preparation for our DT topic. First, we had to look at make sure we could name the different parts of the cars, then we spent time investigating the axle and what happens if its length is changed. We used dowel, cotton buds, straws and different size wheels to see what we could discover! It was an interesting and very fun afternoon!

Friday 21 June 2024 Money! This week we have finished our History topic about cars. We were introduced to Henry Ford and how he used the assembly line to help speed up production. We had a go at making our own cars except we had to use cocktail sticks, playdough and cheerios for wheels! It was very quick to make them and we had to work together as part of a team.

Friday 14 June 2024 Cars Everywhere! What an exciting week in Giraffe Class. It was the last of our school trips and we had the most fantastic time.

Friday 7 June 2024 Cars and Ocarinas Welcome back to Term 6! Where has this year gone? Hopefully we will have the sun shining and can enjoy the last few weeks in Giraffe Class.

Friday 24 May 2024 Sporty Giraffes This term has flown by and the children are ready for the break. Hopefully we will get some good weather!

Friday 17 May 2024 Super Sewing! This week has been all about the sewing. Thank you so much to all the grown ups that came into help with threading our needles and helping us to complete the running stitch. Our puppets look amazing and they are on display in the classroom. The children were all able to follow their designs and decorate their puppets using their plans.
