Giraffes as Scientists!
We started the week by wearing our odd socks to mark the beginning of Anti-Bullying Week. The children really embraced this—there were certainly some incredibly snazzy socks on display! We celebrated our differences and talked about what bullying means, as well as how it differs from simply being unkind.
In English, we continued reading Where the Poppies Now Grow. The children have been writing short diary extracts, imagining what it might have been like to experience life during the war.
In Maths, the children built on their understanding of place value by practising partitioning numbers and exploring different ways to do so. We then moved on to identifying where numbers fit on a number line and estimating the position of missing numbers.
In Science, we have started a new topic: How Do Animals Survive? So far, we have discussed what living things need to stay alive, looked at animal babies, and explored how we keep ourselves healthy through good personal hygiene. Next, we’ll be learning about the importance of exercise and healthy eating.
It has been wonderful to see so many children reading regularly at home, and we are noticing the benefits in the classroom. We are focusing on improving fluency and sound recognition to help with their independent writing. Thank you for your continued support.
