Superb Sculptures!
It is like summer has returned with all of the wonderful weather we are having. It has been wonderful to watch the children enjoying themselves in the sunshine.
During ‘Drawing Club’ this week we have been looking at Lila and the Secret of the Rain. It is all about a little girl who needs the rain to help her crops grow. The children have been drawing the characters, where she lives and thinking about a magical new crop they could grow. The children’s imagination is overflowing and they have written some wonderful codes to bring their pictures to life.
We have started a new concept in Maths and the children are looking at part-whole models as a lead in to early addition and subtraction. The children have been combining the parts to make a whole and have been thinking about how to record these. We will be continually revisiting this concept through the year so the children are secure in their number facts.
Andy Goldsworthy and sculpture is the theme running through our new art topic. We have thought about what a sculpture is and how pattern can be used to add impact and effect. We will be using natural objects from our trip to help us create our own sculptures back in school.
On Thursday afternoon we were lucky enough to have Reverend Rebecca join us as part of our RE topic. She read us a story about kindness and we discussed how to be kind to each other.
Parents Consultations
The sign-up sheet for parent consultations has been circulating this week. Please do sign up. If you are unavailable for any of the times, please do come and see me or send an email and we can arrange a mutually convenient time.
School Trip
Next week we will be on our trip on Thursday. The children will need to wear comfortable clothes and their school jumpers. Joggers or leggings are ideal. Comfortable shoes, trainers or wellies are a must as there is a lot of walking. A small backpack will be needed for the children to carry their lunch. We will leave shortly after 9 and return before the end of the day. If we are running late you will be notified by email and the school social media pages.
Harvest Service
On Thursday 16th October, we are holding our annual Harvest service at the church. If you are able to walk with us as a helper please let myself or one of the Giraffe class adults know. We will be leaving school at 1.30pm and be back by 3pm. Helpers will need to be able to walk there and back with us. For those joining us at the church, the service will start at 2pm.
