Habitats!

What a wet and windy week! It is certainly beginning to feel more autumnal outside. Please can the children make sure they have a coat in school everyday and if they would like to wear slippers in the classroom, we have a box in the cloakroom for them to keep them in.

In Drawing Club this week, we have looked at an old favourite of ‘The Gruffalo’. The children have not only learned some new vocabulary but also had a go at joining in with the repetitive phrases and using these in their writing. There have been some wonderful codes written and we have been looking at ensuring they start with capital letters and finishing with full stops, otherwise our words fall off the page! Some of the Year 2 children have added in some wonderful noun phrases and conjunctions to extend the codes.

Maths has seen the children consolidate their knowledge of the composition of numbers to 20. They have been looking at finding the ‘ten’ then counting on. We have been practising writing our numbers correctly and counting accurately. There has been a lot of apparatus in the classroom that has helped us to do this.

As part of our topic work, we have continued looking at ‘Who Lives Here and Why?’. The children have thought about how the animals have adapted to their habitats and why they live in certain conditions. We have looked at microhabitats around the school grounds and what was living in them.

PE has seen us working on our fitness, we have had to move through the gears to push our bodies to move at different speeds and build up our stamina.

Just a reminder that we visit Stourhead on Thursday 9th October, all of the details can be found on ParentPay.

If you have any questions, please speak to the adult on the door or email us at class2@westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk. The most up to date information can be found on the newsletter and the school website.

Have a great weekend.
