Westbury Infant School and Resource Base

Welcome back to Term 5

It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to school this week after the Easter break. Although this week has only been 4 days long, it has been a busy one!

The children absolutely loved their first swimming lesson at Westbury Swimarium on Tuesday afternoon. Thank you to everyone for remembering swimming kits on the first day back- 100% effort! The children have a varied range of experience when it comes to swimming, but that did not stop any of them from excelling in the water at their pace and demonstrating such confidence and happiness. We are already counting down the days until our next lesson.

In English, we started the week looking at poems written by Shirley Hughes in her lovely book, 'Out and About'. We read three of her poems about mud, sand and water. We had great fun exploring real mud, sand and water to help us really describe what these feel like. The children came up with some fantastic vocabulary and adjectives. Some of us loved the messy mud but others found it quite disgusting!!

In Maths, we have been exploring money. We have looked at the value of coins and notes and have started to count groups of coins.

It was sponsored silence this week, which was great fun. Some of us had to try especially hard to refrain from talking!

As part of our Geography topic we will be going for a walk around Westbury on Wednesday 14th May. If you are able to accompany us, please let us know.

Have a fantastic weekend
