Shapes, leaflets and Brunel

We have had another busy week in Zebra Class and the children have continued to try their absolute best in all areas of the curriculum.

In Maths, we have been looking at a variety of 2D shapes. We have practised naming the shapes, as well as counting the number of sides and vertices. We discovered that the number of sides and the number of vertices always matches. We used art straws, lollysticks and blu-tac to make our own 2D shapes, which was great fun. We also made some wonderful shape pictures. On our rekenreks, we have been using the beads to make number bonds to 8 in different ways.

In English, we have been thinking about the features of leaflets. Leaflets persuade you to visit a special attraction. Leaflets have many features, including bold text, colourful fonts, captions, photographs, headings, titles and facts. We started planning our own leaflet about the SS Great Britain and we will be finishing writing these next week.

In our history topic, we have been  thinking more about Brunel's achievements. We were amazed to find out that he has designed other buildings, including a hospital in Turkey that was built for the injured soldiers during the Crimean War. Brunel is certainly famous beyond our local area. Next week, we will be starting a new topic (DT), focusing on using levers!

PANTOMIME next Tuesday we will be visiting the pantomime in Salisbury. Doors to the classroom will open at 8.30 and we will leave school promptly at 9. We will return within the school day.
