Skillful Sewers and fabulous fraction finders!

Well done Panda Class on achieving another great week of learning.  We have begun our new topic on 'how do you make a puppet?' with great interest and excitement.  First we looked at different joining techniques to find out which method would be a good way to join our puppet together.  Next, using binca we practised running stich, taking care to keep the stitches the same length.  We have some very skillful sewers in our class! We also tried really hard to sew `up, down, up, down but never around'.  I was so impressed with how well the children were able to sew and can't wait to see how beautifully neat their sewing will be on their final puppets.  

In maths this week we have all been learning about fractions and how each fraction must be made of equal parts.  In year 1 we have been learning that to find quarters we need 4 equal parts and to find a half we need 2 equal parts. Some children were able to work out the whole number if we only know one part of the fraction! Fabulous fraction finders year 1. In year 2 we have been learning that the top number is the numerator - this tells us how many of the pieces we need and the lower digit is the denominator- this tells us how many equal parts we need to share our number into.  We have found unit fractions and non unit fractions and we have started comparing fractions and ordering them too.  Great work year 2! 

This term in IT the children have been having fun using a programme called Chrome music lab  to create different pieces of music and experiment with sound.  Today they worked in pairs and  created sounds to represent animals, changing the temp or instrument, pitch and rhythm.  They have really enjoyed being creative and exploring all of the different elements of sounds for themselves.
