Nurturing Nurses, Reliable Recounts and Magnificent Mathematicians

This week we have finished our topic on Nurturing Nurses, where we recognised the equal importance of Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale.  They both played a significant and heroic part in looking after the soldiers during and after the Crimeon War and bringing about changes to the hospitals and treatment of the sick.  We are really grateful to all of the parents who were able to come and support our parent event on Tuesday afternoon, where the children were able to share their wonderful learning and create amazing medals to commemorate the work of the Nurturing Nurses. 

In our English lessons this week we have been thinking about writing recounts and how they are written in the past tense.  We have been learning that lots of words can be changed to the past tense by adding ed; some need to drop the y and add ied and some sentences we can write using the progressive verb form.  " As I was putting down the lamp I saw a soldier reaching out in a lot of pain."

In computers we have continued learning about writing and following algorithms and how to debug them if they do not work.  We have really enjoyed using the floor robots to test out our instructions once we had debugged our algorithms to ensure the floor robot arrived at the correct destination. 

Panda parent event

Well done Panda Class, you have worked so hard this term and deserve a really lovely break.  Try and remember to keep happy and healthy by doing lots of different things- visit a park, read,  go to the library, read,  go on a scavenger hunt, read,  draw a picture, read,  write a letter,read,  play some games together,read,  talk, read, be creative, read, jump in puddles if it rains but most importantly have lots of fun, get plenty of rest and READ!! Use your Oxford owl log to read and do some quizzes. The more you practice the better you will get and the more confident you will feel. 

Remember when you return after half term we will be swimming on a Tuesday.  Please come to school in your PE kit on that day and REMEMBER to bring your swimming costume and towel.   Happy holidays xx
