New topics and swimming
This week has been great. The children have jumped straight into learning and have become more familiar with the routines of Year 1 and Year 2.
We have started a new topic in art and it is all about Augusta Savage, she was an African-American sculptor. The children learned facts about her, looked at her work to share their opinion, had ago at drawing her most famous sculpture and had a go at drawing a self-portrait.
Leopard class had their first swimming lesson this week and it was great to see how amazing they all were. The children were a credit to the school.
In English we have started reading a book called "Can I build another me?" and have learnt that nouns are naming words. We have been labelling our faces and our different body parts with nouns, and wrote sentences about ourselves.
In Maths we have been reminding ourselves how to count forwards and backwards starting from different numbers, recognising that 10 can be represented in a variety of ways and how to add numbers to create 10.
In computing, the children shared their experiences of using IT and their online life. We spoke about what the children could do if they needed help and then began their portfolios. The children took a selfie and edited it to write their name on the picture. We even took a whole class selfie at the end of the lesson!
The children should have bought home a reading book and library book this week. Please also look on our RWI blog page to find useful ways to help your child succeed at reading.
Well done Leopard Class, keep up the hard work.
Miss McMillan and Mrs Fitz-Henry-Roe :)
