Moving cars!

This week, we have been very busy making our moving cars for our DT project. First, the children designed and labelled their plans for their cars and then the making process could begin!

There were some tricky parts, such as attaching the dowel for axles and sanding down the ends to make them smooth. The children had to consider how to attach the wheels, ensure they didn't fall off and also make sure the car could roll along. After that, the children attached the different parts of the cars, some even used both pivot and hinge joins to make doors and windscreen wipers.

The children enjoyed painting their finished cars and adding finishing touches. They are very proud of the end results- and so they should be....they look FANTASTIC!

As there was a general election this week, we held our own within school. The children we all given the option to vote for a fun activity (disco, water fight or ice lollies). We wanted the children to understand that:

  • A general election is taking place and this is to elect our next Prime Minister.
  • As children cannot vote in the general election, we are having our own vote in school.
  • They can only cast one vote each and choose only one option. Everyone has a vote and each vote is equally important. This is called democracy. Democracy means 'rule by the people'. In this case the children are ‘the people’.
  • Their vote is their own and should not be influenced by others
  • The votes will be counted once everyone has voted.
  • The option with the highest number of votes wins

We hope you agree it is important for children to understand the value of voting from a young age and that everyone's opinion matters.

Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you next week. It is hard to believe we only have just over 2 weeks left!
