More History and lots of maths
What a lovely, comfortable end to the week with everyone dressed in pyjamas for Children in Need! Well done and thank you for all of the donations made.
We started a new topic this week. The children put their Historian hats back on as we began to look at the work done by the Victorian engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. This will lead us up to our amazing trip of going to see SS Great Britain in Bristol on Thursday. The children will need to wear their uniform, a coat and comfortable footwear, e.g. trainers. A packed lunch and bottle of water will be provided by school for every child. Can they please have a small back pack to carry their lunch. We will be leaving at 9.00 and be back before the end of the school day.
The children were practising their balancing skills in PE and have started looking at the Christmas story in RE, with the children working in groups to retell the story.
In Maths, the children have been consolidating their knowledge of 2-digit numbers. They have been using place value charts to partition the numbers into tens and ones. Then they had to find the value of each number. They also used number lines to find missing numbers and estimated on a number line.
This week in English, we wrote firework inspired poetry. They all did an amazing job of using adjectives, alliteration and similes to describe what fireworks look and sound like!
On Wednesday, they had a productive day with Miss Bendell and Mrs Smith when they completed lots of maths activities, such as number formation, dominos, snakes and ladders and partitioning. The children also had the challenge of building bridges using paper and straws. They worked in groups and we were really impressed to see their creativity and teamwork.
New reading books were issued on Friday, please continue to support your child’s reading journey by visiting the RWI blog https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-15th-November-2024/
