Marvellous Meerkats visit the Aquarium!

Wow, Wow, Wow!!!  On so many levels this week.  But I think this week’s blog is all about the trip!

Our visit to Bristol Aquarium was amazing. Myself and Ms Smith could not be prouder of the children – their behaviour was excellent throughout the day; a real credit to our school.  They enthusiastically engaged in all that they saw and were able to do – we never expected to be feeding the fish – and they were certainly very hungry fish.  The children saw so many different species of life that live in aquatic habitats.  The big fish Bertha even came out when we all gave her a wave, sadly Octavia the Octopus was too shy but we learnt many interesting facts about her.  We saw graceful sea horses, lobsters, starfish and stingrays.  We even found out an extra fact, from our fabulous guide, about penguins which I’m sure will be in a ‘fact box’ in our non-chronological reports next week.  The children drew on their previous knowledge of habitats and how animals survive to answer and ask questions.   A huge big thank you to our Mummy helpers.  Your support and help was very much appreciated and we are very aware that without parental support these trips could not go ahead.

We will be starting our new geography topic next week, ‘Why does the weather change so much?’ Please do talk to your child about the weather each day as we will be recording it in class.  On the note of weather, the temperature has definitely dropped so please ensure that your child has a warm and waterproof coat in school every day.

I have had a couple of queries regarding PE kit, this term our PE days are Tuesday (swimming) and Wednesday (indoor PE).  On these days’ children are to wear their PE kit to school:

  • A plain white t-shirt
  • Black joggers

Children can wear their school sweatshirt/cardigan as normal on these days and their school shoes.

Due to the trip, book bag books were not issued this week but please do visit the RWI blog to continue to support your child’s reading. https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-24th-November-2023/   I am aware that some of the children have been issued books that they have previously read but we are working on developing fluency in our reading. When listening to your child read could you please encourage them to read without using Fred Talk and do share the questions at the back of the books to encourage vocabulary and discussion.  Thank you.

Next week, Mrs Jeffery will be in class Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with Mrs Watts taking Meerkat Class on Wednesday. Ms Smith, our amazing TA will be with the class all week.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
