Happy half term! You made it… what a busy, successful term 3 Wallabies, well done to all of you.
Another productive week in the classroom, starting off with another space themed text called ‘The way back home’. Children have enjoyed thinking about how they might get to space…. Some really thought outside the box! They then drew and labelled their ideas along with what they might see on their way to space. Children enjoyed making Martian’s using peg boards, constructing vehicles to take to space, drawing and labelling one thing they would take to space to show a Martian and creating a rocket on a lollipop stick.
A key focus in maths was to consolidate the ‘stable order principle’ or rehearsing the order of the first 10 numbers. Children did a lot of oral counting aloud and explored numbers 6 onwards as ‘5 and a bit’. Looking at numberblocks and building their own numbers with cubes helped with this. They investigated one more and one less and worked together to order numbers. They ended the week continuing with positional language and worked in pairs to instruct each other.
In RE, we carried on looking into Nowruz, Persian New Year in particular the traditions that happen during this time. In topic, children explored how Space has zero gravity and they enjoyed talking about what this would be like and what it might be like to live there compared to living here on Earth. To help with this, we watched a short clip of life on a space station. It was fascinating! We looked at the forces of push and pull and had a go at carrying out some push and pull movements before sorting some different pictures into the correct force. In PE children used their knowledge of creating shapes with their bodies e.g. pike, straddle, tuck and creating animal shapes and moves as if they were in a jungle. They worked in pairs to create a sequence and showed each other what they came up with.
