Kangaroos have had a very busy week inspired by the story, 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch.' The children enjoyed listening to the story and talking about the different ways they might stop the seagulls from pinching Mr Grinling's lunch. We were surprised to discover that mustard sandwiches would keep them away. We thought it would be a good idea to make sandwiches so at the beginning of the week we wrote instructions and at the end of the week we followed these to make a sandwich.

It has been lovely to see the children writing independently as part of our daily challenge. The children had pictures from , Luca, Little Mermaid, Spongebob Squarepants and Moana to inspire them to write.

In our Maths Sessions, this week the children have been busy learning how to count beyond 20. We have really tried to focus on saying the 'tee' in the teen numbers. The children have been making collections of numbers and recapping on the rules of counting. They were able to remind me that we needed to line them up, touch them as we count and don't rush the counting! The children have enjoyed dancing along to songs that count to 100.

On Thursday, we gave the children the opportunity to learn about democracy by placing a vote for their reward play time on the 19th July. They could choose from

1, Disco Music,

2, A water fight

3, Ice lollies

The children completed their ballot forms and posted them in the ballot box. On Friday, Mrs Budge announced the winner in assembly and then told the children they could actually have all three things!! It's going to be an amazing day on the 19th July!!

Kangaroos Voting

In our topic this week, we have been learning about the different types of boats and how they are powered. The children enjoyed making their own boats using different materials and testing whether they floated or not. We also explored floating and sinking and the children enjoyed predicting what would float and what would sink. We were shocked to discover that an orange floats.

Kangaroos Term 6 Week 5

As you can see it was a very busy week. We have Read Write Inc assessments coming up soon and it would be great if you could support your child's reading development by visiting the blog or completing a quiz on Oxford Owl.
