WANTED - LANKY LEN and HEFTY HUGH
We started the week with a video call from the police asking for help to create wanted posters for Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh. We got to work straight away as we decided they had caused enough mischief in the stories we have been reading. Luckily the ladybird is always on hand to outsmart the wicked crooks! We started by thinking about a description of the two men and how different they were. We learnt some new vocabulary such as slender and scrawny. The children then created some amazing wanted pictures.
At the end of the week in our English Lessons, we read the story, 'Sully the Seahorse'. This story was about a seahorse that didn't think he was good at anything until one day he discovers he is really good at hide and seek. The moral of the story was 'just give your best and you'll sparkle and shine. We're all special in our own unique way, Believe in yourself, you'll be okay. Don't be afraid to stand out from the crowd. You are amazing! Stand tall and be PROUD.
In our Maths sessions this week we have revisited the five and a bit structure looking at different ways to make 10. The children used tens frames, rekenreks, and dice frames to do this as well as fingers. They can now quickly recall what goes with five to make ten. At the end of the week, we enjoyed revisiting our learning on patterns. We played a game to start called carry on the pattern, the children had to remember a pattern as it went around the circle. We did try some really tricky patterns to see if we could catch anyone out. Then the children played spot the rule when looking at patterns and they were quick to spot the unit of repeat. They then had a go at making patterns whilst their partner spotted the unit of repeat.
In our topic learning this week, we have been learning all about how to stay safe at the beach. We learnt a summer safety song to help us and could spot dangers at the beach. We know all about how to stay safe at the beach and who can help us should we need it. We also discussed what we would need to take on a visit to the beach and the children all remembered that they would need water, suncream and a hat.
This week is Father's day on Sunday so the children have been busy making cards and learning a special song.
