Clay sculptures and senses
As part of our art topic this week, we have been inspired by Augusta Savage and her works. The children explored techniques to shape playdough before moving onto clay. We rolled, squashed and moulded the materials and created a clay pot, before decorating it with gems. Then the children used these techniques to create a bust of themselves. As you can see, the children did a fantastic job!
During our English lessons we have carried on reading the book ‘Can I build another me?’. We have talked and written about the things the different parts of our body can do. Then we had a think about the things that we like and dislike. We had to use our senses of touch and smell to describe the different things we were given. The children got stuck in and smelt or touch foods they have never experienced before. As you can see from their faces, some were disgusting!
During our maths sessions we have continued looking at ‘teen’ numbers and finding one more and one less. We represented a lot of this through pictures and using apparatus. We also looked at number lines and being able to identify missing numbers. The children have worked hard drawing number lines and writing numbers accurately.
