Budding Artists head to Bath!

Last Thursday, Panda class, along with Leopards and Zebras, headed out on their first trip of the year to Holburne Museum in Bath.  We have been studying sculpture in out Art topic since the beginning of the term, so this trip was to enrich this learning, getting to see art and sculpture in a gallery.

Before we had our workshop in the Museum, we had time to explore Sydney Gardens next to the museum, where we could explore the nature in the area as well as enjoy the lovely park and playground.  The children had a wonderful time playing together and using the equipment... some of us might even have got a bit wet playing in the water and sand area!

After we'd eaten our lunch, it was time to go into the museum.  We talked about what Sculpture was before going into the museum with the staff to look at some incredible sculptures and art that is housed in the museum.

When we came back to the classroom, we spent the rest of our time creating sculptures of our own using Modroc, which is something we haven't used before, as we used clay to create our busts in school.

The children really thought about what poses they wanted their sculptures to be in and then copied the techniques shown to them by the museum's teacher, to create brilliant sculptures.  The parent helpers who had come along also enjoyed helping with the activity and getting their hands dirty!
