All about cars!!

Another busy week for the Marvellous Meerkats.  Starting with a visit from Ian and Cooper the dog, to hear the children read and finishing with our wonderful trip to the Haynes Motor Museum.  What a wonderful day we all had. The children saw and sat on the cars that they are learning about in History and many many more – the Lamborghini sparked a particular interest with them all!   They took part in a production line challenge and as always worked so well as a team.  The children were a credit to the school – their behaviour and engagement was fantastic.  Gems in the jar!  Thank you so much to the adults who joined us today on the trip, we hope you enjoyed it as much we did.  Your help and support are invaluable and enables these trips to happen – so a big thank you! (More pics to follow next week)

We also have had some visitors from the Junior School this week to meet the Year 2 children in class before the Year 2 children visit the Junior school next Monday.  Please follow the link for the letter which was sent with all transition details.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/docs/letters/letters_2023-2024/Y2_Transition_letter_2024.pdf

The Year 2 children have continued with our topic of money in Maths.  The have compared amounts and looked and different ways to make an amount.  Playing shops with some loose change at home is a great way for the children to become more familiar with coins and their value.  The Year 1 children have been comparing values using inequally symbols and using their number value knowledge to order amounts.

Inspired by Mrs Armitage and her modified bike, the children have created their own character and modified a scooter in preparation for writing an adventure next week.  We are very much enjoying the book, you can follow the link below to share the book at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL_JIl9V16s

We visited the library on Thursday and all the children choose a book to share at home.  Please return any books you have already shared together and enjoy the one chosen this week.

We are so fortunate in Meerkats class to have two volunteers who read weekly with the children.  The children are all so excited and enthusiastic to show off their reading skills, enjoying this one to one opportunity.  Please ensure that your child has their reading book in school every day to share on with the lovely Shirley and Rhonda.

Myself and Miss Smith were quite blown away by the speed at which the children picked up playing the ocarinas.  They learnt how to play 6 notes and put them together with controlled breath to play the first part of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.  Marvellous Musical Meerkats!!

Next week, I will be in class Tuesday, Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday with Mrs Hughes taking Meerkat Class all day Monday and Wednesday morning.  Ms Smith, our amazing TA will be with the class all week.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
