World Book Day and Pancake Making!
A fantastic second week back into term 4 continuing our topic ‘wriggle, crawl and roar’ with the story Farmer Duck. Children enjoyed learning new vocabulary including fatigued, eject, stunned and stealthy where they come up with actions to help remember the words and their meaning. In drawing club children created their own lazy farmer character, a farmer’s house for a setting and an adventure for the character to go on! They have also enjoyed farm themed activities around the classroom including making farm animals with play-doh, creating their own small world farm, observing and drawing fruit and vegetables that grow on our farms and making animal pens in the construction area.
In topic we have been recognising baby animals and what they will grow into, looking at pastoral farms and what animals might be found there and finally exploring where our foods come from. We explored making collages in art using horizontal and vertical strips of paper, they turned out amazing! Children LOVED making pancakes to celebrate pancake day on Tuesday where they followed instructions as a group and then got to taste and enjoy eating them. This was followed by World Book Day on Thursday, it was fabulous to see all the children come in as different words including curious, heroic, sleepy, strong and brave! They enjoyed some themed activities and finished the day with some paired reading with Meerkat class. In maths children have been counting backwards, finding one fewer, recognising 10 and how it is composed and finally comparing numbers. A very successful, busy week of learning, well done Wallabies!
