Penguin Meerkats!

It’s beginning to feel a bit like Christmas… Sparkle our class elf has been writing to us each day and is very proud of how kind Meerkat Class is.  She has put the letters received for Father Christmas in her special bag and will make sure that the are delivered safely.

We have begun our rehearsals for the Christmas performance.  Thank you for all the costumes sent in – we are very much looking forward to performing for you next week.  It has been so lovely to hear the children singing along to the songs throughout the day and on the way to swimming!

Monday 11th - 10am: Christmas Nativity Performance (children allowed) Meerkat, Panda, & Zebra classes only.

Tuesday 12th - 2pm: Christmas Nativity Y1 & Y2 Performance (adults only) followed by Christmas Fayre Meerkat, Panda, & Zebra classes only.

The children had their last swimming lesson on Tuesday and wow, wow, wow!!! They all made such progress in both their swimming and confidence in the water. The children thoroughly enjoyed the last lesson complete with extra squirty toys, disco lights and Christmas music.  Some even managed to splash me!   The children have walked beautifully to the lessons each week, behaved impeccably and listened to all the adults.  Well done Marvellous Meerkats – you are a credit to the school.  Swimming certificates were sent home on Wednesday so please check the book bags.  Once again, a huge big thank you to the parent/grandparent helpers who supported us each week.

We will return to our normal PE lessons in Term 3.  Outdoor PE on Monday and indoor PE on Wednesday.  Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days.

We have been looking at instructions in English.  The children are helping Edward the Emperor penguin look after the egg and the chick by writing a list of instruction for him.  To help us order our instructions the children together acted out all the various things that he will need to do.

We have continued to explore shape in Maths and have been looking at patterns.  The children worked together to create patterns, spot missing elements from patterns and create repeating patterns.

In Geography we have looked at other countries in the world and compared the weather during the autumn season in these counties.  We used the atlases to locate the countries and our knowledge about Kenya (Lila and the Secret of Rain), Europe (where we live), countries and continents far away from the equator (The Emperor’s Egg) to help us think about weather patterns.

Please see the RWI blog to support your child’s reading.  https://www.westbury-inf.wilts.sch.uk/News/Friday-8th-December-2023/
