Honeybees Friday 8th November

We have had a fantastic first week back in Honeybee Class.

We started the week with a new story called Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly by Nick Sherratt and Sue Heap. The story focuses on two characters who like things to be different colours. We then discussed our favourite colours and looked at our environment and the colours we see around us.

In topic we have been learning all about the Hindu festival of Diwali and followed a little girl called Deeya and her family to learn about how they celebrate the festival. We looked at photographs of food, decorations, clothing and temples. We spoke about what we can see and how we celebrate specials times in the year such as Christmas and birthdays. The children enjoyed learning about the festival and made beautiful rangoli patterns using paint and chalk. In addition to this we also focused on Bonfire Night, how to keep ourselves safe and watched some beautiful fireworks. The children enjoyed creating their own firework pictures using the colours they could see.

In maths we have been learning all about 2D shapes, in particular circles and triangles. We have learned that a circle is round and a triangle has three sides. We have found items around us that are the same shape, made our very own shape pictures using our cutting and sticking skills and sorted shapes using descriptions.
