Honeybees 31st January

Our learning this week focused on the story Handa's Surprise written by Eileen Browne. It has taken us on a trip to Africa alongside Handa, a little girl who travels with a basket of fruit to give to her friend Akeyo. On her journey many cheeky animals take the fruit without her seeing from her basket so Handa really does give her friend a surprise when she arrives. The children have really enjoyed the story, learning all about the different animals, what sounds they make in the wild and what they like to eat. They used their understanding of the story to match the animal to the fruit they took, made their own fruit baskets and enjoyed choosing and chopping fruit to add to their own fruit basket to eat.

In math's this week we have focused on accurately counting out totals from larger groups using our fingers to move one item at a time when we count out a total and then rechecking the answer. We were very proud of how accurate the children were when counting totals this week. They have really grown in confidence. Well done!

In our topic session we learned about safer strangers such as police, teachers and doctors and also discussed who we could go to if we were lost in a shop. We had a great discussion and the children had really thoughtful ideas. In PE the children were focusing on their throwing skills with the use of hoops and beanbags.
