Friday 6th October 2023

We have had a fun but tiring week in Kangaroo Class.

In our PE sessions this week the children started a new unit of work. We pretended to be pirates on board a pirate ship. We played a game where the children had to run to different parts of the ship and carry out chores such as scrubbing the deck. The skill for this session was balancing on one leg. The children worked in pairs to practice balancing on one leg. Then we played a game of musical statues and each time the music stopped the children had to balance on one leg and be as still as possible.

In our English lessons this week, we had a squiggle lesson where the children practiced making large circles and then drew the circles on paper. We had another round of helicopter stories with different children sharing their story this week. In our Friday session, the children discovered a phone that didn't work until we found the magic to make it work. We made a call and it was answered by Riddle Diddle who set us a challenge then told us where to find our message this week. The message was a map from the min pins (mystical people) to show where they are on their adventures. The children then created maps to give to the min pins to provide ideas where they could go on their adventures. This week in our phonic sessions we practiced the sounds c,k,u and b.

As part of our topic sessions we have been learning about People who help us. On Wednesday the children had the best time exploring different professions when we had a visit from Little City. The children really enjoyed acting out different scenarios in the city and it was a joy to see them collaborating on their role-play ideas. Towards the end of the week the children created a picture of who they would like to be when they grow up.

In our Maths sessions, we have been helping Fred to count reliably. The children helped to count various objects and we developed some rules for counting. The suggestions for counting reliably included line the objects up, touch each one as you count and remember the last number is how many there are in the set. On Friday, we used a counting wand to help us count larger objects that couldn't be moved easily. The children then had the opportunity to create their own counting wands.

It was a fantastic week and I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Next week we will be going to the church on Wednesday if you are able to help us walk to the church then please let us know.

This week due to training I will be out of the class on Monday.
