It’s Panto Time! Oh, no it isn’t. Oh yes, it is!
We had a delightful trip to see the pantomime Sleeping Beauty. Salisbury playhouse was buzzing with excitement as the performance started. The costumes, energetic performances and lively music had everyone engaged. The children sat beautifully throughout the performance and enjoyed singing and dancing along to the songs. It was amazing when the whole playhouse filled with bubbles the children’s faces were a picture of awe and wonder! It definitely got us in the mood for Christmas.
Sleeping Beauty Panto 2024
Nativity practice is in full swing this week, the children are trying so hard to remember their lines and can sing the songs beautifully. We do have a bank of costumes so if you need one for your child’s part then please let me know.
Our story of the week was ‘Stickman’ The children have enjoyed joining in with the repeated refrains of the story and talking about how Stickman was feeling at different parts of the story. The children have had the opportunity to act out the story in the role-play area, create their own stickman using different media and complete our giant jigsaw of the story.
In our maths learning this week we have focused on the numbers that add together to make five. We sang the song ‘Five speckled frogs’ and thought about how many frogs were on the log and how many in the pond. We represented this using our five frames. The children started to use the language one is a part, four is a part and the whole is five. This learning was consolidated when the children used the hoops and five beanbags to see the different ways to make five. The children would say how many in the hoop and how many outside the hoop as well as how many altogether. We also looked at the numicon shapes and thought about the value of these. The children practiced ordering the shapes and then played a game where one shape was removed and the child had to say which one was missing.
In the craft area the children have started thinking about what they would like for Christmas by cutting out pictures and adding them to a stocking. The children have also been developing their fine motor skills by decorating a tree in the tuff spot and adding Christmas lights to a string using tweezers.
We finished the week with a Reading workshop where the children had the opportunity to show off their reading skills. In the evening, it was time for the Christmas story telling event which was enjoyed by those who attended it.
Next week we will be getting into the Christmas spirit as we begin to create our Christmas crafts.
