Welcome Back

What a week we have had finding out about different celebrations. The children enjoyed sharing their experiences of Autumn, Diwali and Bonfire Night. Throughout the week we have looked at each celebration and compared how they are similar or different. The week began with the story of ‘Leaf Man’ where we looked at all the different creations made from leaves. This inspired some of our children to use the loose parts to create a picture.

The children danced their way into Tuesday and had an amazing time in PE learning to dance to the rhythm of the music. The children listened to some Samba music then created a dance to go with the music. There were some very impressive dance moves!

On Wednesday and Thursday, we focussed on the celebration of Diwali, the children had the opportunity to decorate hands with a mendhi pattern, design and make Rangoli patterns with the numicon and paint firework pictures. The children enjoyed watching the first festival programs from the BBC to find out more information about the celebration of Diwali.

In Maths this week the children have been comparing numbers. We have played compare fingers were the children hid their hands behind their backs and on the count of three showed a number up to five. They then said whether they matched, had fewer or more fingers. The children have also been comparing groups of objects.

In our RWI lessons we have finished all our set 1 single letter sounds and the children are becoming more confident to blend sounds to read words. We are really proud of how they are trying their very best in every session!

The children had the opportunity to learn about Bonfire Night and create rockets, fireworks using different media and create firework patterns with buttons. On Friday as a special treat the children had the opportunity to make firework toast. They all thought their toast was yummy and extra special because they had decorated it.
