Cooking and Calculations!

What a busy week we've had!  So much fabulous and varied learning - it's been wonderful to see the children trying hard to figure things out and develop this skills.

In English, we have started looking at a new book called A Trip To London.  This leads on from our last Geography topic, and the children have shown they've learned lots of information from that.  They will be writing their own non-chronological reports, so we've been finding out facts and thinking about the features of the text so that we can write successfully.

In Maths, we have continued to look at Addition and Subtraction - doing more tricky calculations, word problems and missing number calculations.  We've definitely been testing our brains and it's been great to see the children's resilience while they've tried to do some of this tricky work..

Our topic work has been DT this week - and the children have absolutely loved looking at recipes, thinking about where food comes from and then doing some baking in class.  They showed great team work while they worked together to make playdough and scones.

We've also continued to develop our computing skills by recreating artwork by the artist Henri Matisse, using the ipads and a drawing app.  Some of the detailed work that the children created was incredible!

We have another great week planned next week, with more working with food!

Thank you all for returning your swimming forms - we have everything organised now ready to start our 6 week block of swimming straight after the half term holiday.

On the last day of term - Thursday 13th - we are having a parents workshop and parent event - all about using Maths games at home to develop your children's skills.  Mrs Channon has some great activities to share with you at the workshop and then you can come in to class to share some Maths games with the children.  We'd love to see as many of you as possible on the day.

Have a wonderful weekend!
