Friday 20th January

Wow, what a fantastic week it has been in Wallaby class!

This week we learnt the story Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas which is an alternative story to Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  It was the perfect story to read alongside learning about Chinese New Year.  In drawing club we talked about the following words ‘Observe, texture, panic, gloopy, narrow, exhausted, determined and reluctant’ and the children were brilliant at thinking of actions to help remember each word.  One of the drawing club sessions was to draw a vehicle to get us to China and the children were so excited describing their vehicles to us.

In maths we have been looking closely at the numbers 6,7 and 8.  The children have had to find 6 using different pictures and sorted what was 8 and what wasn’t 8.  They all did such a fantastic job at this.  As part of our topic, we have been looking at melting and freezing and talking about what happens when water is frozen.  We watched a fantastic video of a frozen water fall and then filled a washing up gloves with water.  We predicted what would happen and they put it in the freezer overnight.  It was very exciting the following day when we went to have a look!

Towards the end of the week, the children had their first taste of Chinese food.  They enjoyed making vegetable spring rolls which they got to eat as well.  They also tasted noodles with a variety of dipping sauces and prawn crackers!  On Friday, it was ‘Far Away Friday’ and the children were given their own passports to take them to China.  They got on the plane and were given drinks before the flight started.  The children set up a Great Wall of China all around the classroom and made moving Dragons which they really loved doing.  They also made Chinese fans out of Gold paper plates and tried on Chinese style clothes.  The children were given little envelopes top coins in as well. It was a wonderful way to end the week!
