Amazing Abstract Artists and Super Sculptures.

What an amazing week we have had in Panda Class.  We began the week with a super trip to Westonbirt Arboretum where we enjoyed looking for mini beasts.  Then we were really fortunate to take part in a glass making workshop and work with a local artist who helped the children to create some wonderful creatures.  Once they have been fussed together we are hoping to make them into a class mobile.  They look amazing and the children should be really proud of what they have achieved.

Our new art topic is looking at the work of Alex Calder, who was an American artist who particularly enjoyed making sculptures.  We have had fun this week creating some wonderful paper sculptures that represent different things around us.  We have finished this week understanding the difference between real or abstract drawings and had a go at creating a picture of a leaf using both techniques.  I hope you enjoy viewing their creations as much as they did creating them.

In IT we have learnt about how technology is used in our everyday lives to help us; from crossing the road to buying our food at the supermarket.  We had some interesting discussions about how cameras are everywhere to protect us and keep us safe to role playing going shopping, using bar codes and scanners to find the price of items.

This week, we had a fantastic day out at Westonbirt Arboretum.  The weather was perfect and we enjoyed walking around looking at different trees and we also went on a mini beast hunt.  The children used a variety of tools to help them uncover different mini beasts.  We found centipedes, slugs, woodlouse and many more! We even played a mini beast game, where the children were 'blue tits' and they had to find as many worms as they could before being eaten by the sparrow hawk.  The children were all very well behaved and I was so proud of all of them

Please remember to read to your grown up everyday and keep your reading book and diary in your bag so that we can hear you whenever we get a spare few minutes! Have a lovely weekend x
