Westbury walk and maps

Wow, another week of the term has gone!

A definite highlight of this week was the walk around Westbury to support our Geography topic- 'Our local area'. The children were fantastic at spotting the human and physical features within the town and looking for key places that would be shown on a map. We even discussed some history of the town and what areas have changed. It was a very warm afternoon and the children were a credit, so a little play in the park was the best end to the walk.

In English, we started a book called 'Windows'. It shows the life of a boy called Sam, through pictures, and no words! The children made a prediction of what the story could have been about based on the front cover and then annotated one of the windows throughout the week with nouns, adjectives and speech.

In maths, we continued working with fractions, finding ½, 1/3 and ¼ of amounts.  We have used manipulatives to share amounts into equal groups before drawing and using part, part whole models and then recording our learning in books.

Next week we have our ‘practice’ Sports Day on Tuesday and our Annual Sports Day Wednesday 21st May at 1.45pm, to which you are invited.  Please can you ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school on both of these days next week.  We will not be doing PE on Monday next week.

New reading books continue to be issued every Friday, please ensure that your child returns their book each Friday so that they can be given a new book.

A letter with details of our trip to Lacock next term has been issued.  If you would like to join us on the trip please let me know asap via the class email or at the class door next week.  Thank you.
