Term 2 begins

Welcome back to Term 2!

As we start a new term, we also begin new topics. Our first topic has been 'What is Remembrance?'. This history unit has allowed us to look at why we wear poppies and what else we do to remember the soldiers and animals on Remembrance Day. The children have really enjoyed making poppies, poppy fields and trenches.

We read a new story to continue our work with this, called 'Where the poppies now grow'. It is a beautiful story that follows two boys, Ben and Ray, who join the army and grow old with their memory of the war. We used this to describe the characters, the setting and write postcards home.

In maths, we have been recognising and making numbers to 100. We have been counting forwards and backs wards in steps of 10 and thinking about how many tens and ones each number is made of.  The children have then been representing these using different apparatus.

In computing, the children have been thinking about ‘what makes a good photograph’. They had great time using the Ipads to take a picture of a building, person, an action shot and even a selfie!

PE was all about controlling the ball to roll it and aim towards a target. And sprinting- running with speed. The children had to control their body to change speeds and use their arms and legs to move as fast as they could.

The children have all shown their learning in different ways this week and have made a fantastic start to term 2. Great work Leopard Class!
