Splendid Sculptures and Disco Divas!

What a fantastic week we have had in Panda Class; learning about a modern day sculptist called Andy Goldsworthy, celebrating 3 children who have read over 30 times this term already and feeling proud of the children's fantastic code writing in Drawing club!  Well done everyone for being determined and challenging your learning.  You are super stars!

During 'Drawing Club' this week we have been using the story called Lila and the Secret of Rain to stimulate our imaginations and help us create some lovely codes to match their fantastic illustrations.  If you would like to read/listen to  the story together at home you can find it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz6IVAKSXiM .

Our new topic in art is looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy who creates amazing sculptures often using natural objects.  We began by looking at the different art forms and how sculptures are different from paintings and drawing.   We then had lots of fun creating our own unique sculptures and giving them a name.  We then moved on to thinking carefully about how he used pattern in lots of his pieces and we had a go and creating different patterns using a variety of materials of our choosing.  Andy Goldsworthy has been quite an inspiration to the children who have created some super sculptures.

On Thursday we were fortunate to have Reverend Rebecca join us as part of our RE topic.  We listened to a story about kindness and thought about how we could show kindness to others.  It has been lovely to see the children showing kindness to each other through sharing their resources, helping tidy up even when they may not have made the mess and looking after each other when they have been sad or been hurt. Empathy and being considerate are lovely qualities displayed by the children and are the qualities that help them to become great friends.

We ended the week with our sponsored disco.  We had lots of fun dancing on the hour, every hour and then in the afternoon we created a disco feel in the hall, with dimmed lights, great music and a disco ball!  We then danced like divas to the beat and  had lots of fun together!

School trip  and harvest service

Next week will be our school trip on Wednesday. The children need to wear a school jumper, comfortable shoes as there will be lots of walking and bring a small back pack for their lunch, which they will be expected to carry.

On THURSDAY 16th October we will be celebrating our harvest service at the church. Please bring a TIN and 10p to show kindness to others who are in need.  Thank you to those who have offered to help.  We still need some more helpers to walk the children to and from the service so if you are available  please let us know ASAP.  Without your support we can not give the children these special learning experiences.  We will leave at 1.35 and return by the end of the school day.  For those joining us at the church, the service will start at 2pm.

Reading

If you can do one thing with your child this weekend please read to them and hear them read their book.  It really does make a massive difference to their confidence, learning and enjoyment of school.  Without your help their reading journey is significantly slower.  Please read for 5 minutes every night and sign their reading diaries so that they can feel proud and receive a prize after reading 30 times.  Thank you for your help.

Have a wonderful weekend x
