Odd Socks, Children in Need and fantastic writing!
This week, was anti-bullying week and it saw us celebrating and talking about valuing each other's differences and celebrating kindness. On Monday, the children enjoyed wearing their odd socks and then Friday was a very comfortable day wearing our pyjamas for Children in Need!
Leopard Class has worked so hard this week to show how amazing they are at writing. We continued our work on the story 'Where the Poppies Grow' by ordering the events, hot-seating and then writing a diary entry from Ben and Ray's perspective in the form of a comic strip. I was so impressed to see the effort and hard work that went into each one!
In maths, we have been partitioning 2-digit numbers. We used the resources to first make the number and then practically partition it in different ways before recording in our books. We have also ordered numbers on number lines and used our understanding to identify missing numbers and to estimate when numbers would sit on a blank number line.
In PE, the children practised their rolling skills, aiming towards a target. We applied this to a game of aliens vs astronauts and the class loved this.
We started our new topic ‘How do animals survive’ in science. We began by looking at what animals need to stay alive and what things are nice but not essential. The children used different things, such as cubes, to represent this in creative ways. We then shared the story of ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson to help us think about if all babies look like their parents and life cycles. We also shared the story of ‘Doctor Dog’ to identify how good hygiene helps us to stay healthy. We met coughing Colin, who spread germ by not covering his mouth when coughing and sneezing and learnt about how good hand washing stops germs from spreading.
In music, the children designed musical instruments to be made from recycling junk modelling. We will be making them next week so please ask your child about their instruments and send in any boxes, plastic bottles or tubs they would like to use. Please ensure any items sent in are empty and clean.

NOTE:
- Just a reminder, please ensure that your child has a waterproof coat in school with them every day as we do try to get outside for playtime unless it is very heavy rain.
- I will be in class all week.
