Musical Meerkat Orchestra!
We all know the Meerkats are marvellous but I think after this week’s music lesson they can also be called Musical Meerkats! Our music lesson was great fun and very creative and probably the highlight of the week! The children made the instruments which they designed last week. It was great to see them working collaboratively and thinking about how they could adapt the recycling materials to make a musical sound. We even performed just like a real orchestra at the end of the lesson to the song Ebenezer!
In English, we have been thinking about Antarctica and what we could see, hear and feel if we were there. We have thought about the animals, the landscape and the weather and using a word bank, which we created together, the children have written list poems. I think the cold weather this week has really helped the children to think about how it would feel if we were really there!
Using our knowledge of place value, the children have been comparing values and using mathematical vocabulary to explain which number is greater than or less than the other. We have also ordered numbers from the smallest to the greatest value. Please continue to support your child on their maths learning journey by playing lots of board and dice games at home.
We were working scientifically in science this week when we conducted some experiments to see the effect of different exercises on our bodies. The children excitedly shared all the different sports and types of exercise they do outside of school – they really are a busy bunch! We also looked at the ‘eatwell’ plate and thought about healthy meals and which food we should eat the most of. The children created playdough meals and designed healthy lunchboxes. We finished the topic this week but not before the children showed me all that they know about ‘How do animals survive’ with a class quiz and some great pictorial recording in their books.
Thank you for supporting your child with their reading. Books are changed every Friday so please ensure book folders are in school so that your child can receive their new book.
It is definitely coat weather now so please ensure your child had a coat in school every day as we do go out for all playtimes and PE. Also, if your child brings in a hat and gloves, please ensure that they are labelled.
Next week, I will be in class all week with our wonderful TAs, Miss Smith and Miss Lloyd.
Wishing you all a very happy weekend – stay cosy!
