Minibeasts!

We have had another wonderful week in Wallaby Class.  The children were very excited to see that our 5 caterpillars are growing and they have enjoyed watching them move each day.

This week in Drawing Club we have been reading the story Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.  It is a really lovely story about a little boy who finds a lost penguin at his door.  The boy tries to return the penguin but no one seems to be missing one.  The children had to draw and write a secret code about another animal who was missing and think about the setting and its own adventure.   In Maths, we have been learning the names of 3d shapes and looking at which of the shapes are best for rolling and stacking.  Wallabies have also been spotting 3d shapes in their environment and then have been looking at more complex patterns.

During topic, we have been looking at minibeasts.  We looked at a lovely book called Mad About Minibeasts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKx59b5yv1s and during afternoon continuous provision, the children were taken into the Sensory Garden to look for them.  In Music, we listened to another of Saint Saen’s pieces from Carnival of the Animals- The Cuckoo.  Wallabies had to try and guess the animal and loved trying to spot the ‘Cuckoo’ sound in the music.
