Meerkats out and about!
As we come to the end of the penultimate week of term 5 I can’t quite believe how quickly this term is going! However, we still have lots to do next week as we finish our topic blocks in all subjects and celebrate the children’s sporting abilities at Sports Day.
We began the week taking our learning outside of the classroom with a walk around Westbury; looking for physical and human features in our local area. The children spotted lots of features and landmarks and even learnt the history behind some of the buildings. Thank you so much to the parents and grandparents who joined us on the walk, without your help and support we really wouldn’t be able to do these trips out.
We have now almost finished our geography topic block and the children have fully embraced our afternoon exploratory learning over the past few weeks. They have worked so well as a team, sharing collaborative learning, taking turns at the different activity stations, as well as sharing ideas and resources. Do check out the photos to see exactly what they have all been up to. Myself and Miss Smith are really so very proud of them all. Well done marvellous Meerkats!
We shared a new book with a difference in English this week, a book with no words! It has given the children a great opportunity to make predictions and put their own ideas and thoughts into the characters and what they think they are doing and feeling. The children worked in partners all week and each day have shared their learning with the whole class. It was wonderful to see how much the children’s confidence has grown and hear their vocabulary choices when explaining their learning. Here’s the link if you would like to share the book at home.

In maths, we continued working with fractions, finding ½, 1/3 and ¼ of amounts. We have used manipulatives to share amounts into equal groups before drawing and using part, part whole models and then recording our learning in books. Please do ask your child about what they know if they are helping you share snacks, measure ingredients or cut up fruit or vegetables at home this weekend.
Next week we have our ‘practice’ Sports Day on Tuesday and our Annual Sports Day Wednesday 21st May at 1.45pm, to which you are invited. Please can you ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school on both of these days next week. We will not be doing PE on Monday next week.
New reading books continue to be issued every Friday, please ensure that your child returns their book each Friday so that they can be given a new book.
A letter with details of our trip to Lacock next term has been issued. If you would like to join us on the trip please let me know asap via the class email or at the class door next week. Thank you.
Next week, I will be in class all week with our wonderful TA, Miss Smith.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Mrs Jeffery and Miss Smith.
