Marvelous Metre Measuring and Pretty Painted Pictures
Spring is definitely in the air! Despite the cold mornings, the sun has been bright and the days are getting longer. Panda Class have worked super hard this week and should feel proud of all of their achievements. We have continued to enjoy learning lots of new and interesting things this week as well as consolidating things we have already learned.
This was the last week of learning about Georgia O'keeffe and the children used all of the techniques represented in her work to create little master pieces of their own. The care and attention to detail that the children took from colour mixing to size of brush selection to going over their lines in black to make the colours POP! have really enhanced their pictures and shows how much they have enjoyed their learning.

In maths we have been learning about measuring using a ruler and a metre ruler. This week we have practised measuring different objects around the classroom in cm and m and learning to use a ruler to draw lines of different lengths accurately. Today we had lots of fun taking our learning outside of the classroom to find things that were longer than a metre or shorter than a metre. We also used our ruler to measure the length of the playground and the height of the building.
In English we have been learning about writing a persuasive letter and what to persuade really means. Sorry parents if the children try to persuade you to get a family pet and come up with a lot of good reasons why it might be a good idea! They can be very persuasive! I hope you have some counter arguments up your sleave! Fortunately we have spent more time thinking about how to improve our environment and the effect of dropping litter around school. We collected lots of examples or where we have seen litter in the school grounds, talked about how it makes us feel when we see it and thought carefully about why we don't like it. We then thought about how we could help improve it and, all of these great ideas, we will put together next week to write a letter to Mrs Budge.
Thank you to every one of you how is making the time to hear your child read and practice their set 2 and 3 sounds. It is making a real difference. Please continue to hear your child read daily and share a book with them at bedtime.
A little reminder that it is parents evening on Tuesday 18th and Wednesdays 19th next week so we look forward to sharing your children's work with you.
Have a lovely weekend
