Mad About Materials

We've had another busy week in Panda Class!

The children have been reading a diary in English about the Great Fire of London, and this week, they have written their own versions of this... and what a wonderful job they have done.  Some superb writing from everyone that they should be really proud of - well done Pandas!

In maths we have continued to learn about time - using the clocks faces to tell the time to quarter past the hour, quarter to the hour and telling the time in 5 minute increments.   Time is a really tricky topic for lots of children, but they have tried really hard and are making great progress.  If you could please encourage them to tell the time on an analogue clock at home - look at the clock when you're eating a meal, or what time is it as your leaving the house... anything like that would be really helpful.

Our science learning this week has continued to think about materials and their properties.  We thought about the fact that the same materials can have different properties - such as water can be a liquid, solid and a gas, or that some plastic is hard but some is very flexible.  We then moved on to carrying out science experiments to test how waterproof materials are.  They worked hard to make predictions and carry out a fair test.

In computing we are continuing to explore the apps that we have available on the school ipads and the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the app ChatterPics this week where they had to take photographs, give the person or object a mouth and then record what the character might say.  Lots of them asked if they could get the app on their tablets at home - which they can.  It's a free app available to download and helps to develop their skills with the an ipad/tablet well.

The weather is set to be lovely again next week, so please remember sun cream and sunhats - particularly for our trip on Tuesday when we will be outside for lots of the day.

Have a wonderful weekend.
