Habitats and living things

What a lovely, busy week it has been! The children got stuck into the routines of KS1 and have been showing off all of their fantastic skills, learning and friendships throughout. Well done Leopards for another great week.

In drawing club, the children have been exploring the book 'The Bog Baby'. We created our own Bog Babies, thought about where they might live. We even wondered what kind of things would keep it clean and safe, how it might travel and what kind of powers it might have.

Maths has been all about counting and representing the numbers from 1-20. We have used different apparatus to represent 10 and thought about how many tens and ones are needed to make each number.

Knowledge Organisers for science went home on Monday and this week we began our new topic ‘Who lives here and why?’  We took our learning outside of the classroom when we looked for things that were alive, dead or had never been alive.  As the photos show we found lots of items to bring back into class to discuss and sort.  We have also looked at what animals and plants need to survive and the different habitats in our world.  It has been great to see the children create habitats and tell me what animal would live there and why. The children worked very creatively to show me all of what they had learned.

In outdoor PE, the aim was to think about how we might be able to run for a longer amount of time. The children said that the aim wasn't to run fast too quickly because we would run out of energy. We did lots of running games before the children ran for a minute and a half around the playground. Indoor PE was all about team building. The children each had a number and they had to get themselves into groups according to the number card they had. Eventually the children completed the challenge of getting themselves in order while staying on a bench. They worked great together!

Book bag books and new reading folders were sent home today.  Your child’s log in details for Oxford Owl are inside the front cover of the reading journal so please do log on to see additional resources to support your child’s reading journey.  Please send this folder into school every day so we can listen to the children read throughout the week.

Hope you have a lovely, well rested weekend.
