Grand Grandparents and Sensational Scientists

What a wonderful end to the week we had, welcoming all of the wonderful grandparents who were able to come into school and support their Grandchildren's learning.  They were given a fantastic treat of touring our equivalent of the National Gallery in London or the Louvre in Paris where they could view and purchase a beautiful piece of artwork created by their own grandchildren.  We then had lots of fun decorating Elmer the Patchwork elephant using different textures of materials to help reinforce our learning in science.  It was a lovely way to end the week. Thank you so much for your support.  It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

This week we began our new Science topic looking at materials and their properties.  We have had fun exploring and identifying what things are make from and if objects are made from one or more material and why.

In English we have started to read a new book called Fire Cat which is written as a diary based around the historic event of the Great Fire of London.  The children have been learning all about the features of writing a diary, hot seating a character to help imagine what it would have been like to have experienced it and learning about adding ed to the end of some words to write in the past tense.

In maths we have been learning about  telling the time; not only knowing the days of the week, months of the year and knowing which day comes before or after another or how to identify yesterday, today and tomorrow, but also reading an analogue clock.  Panda class should be able to read o'clock times and half past.  So Panda Class try and keep practicing at home and see how many you can get right!  You could even keep a diary of different things you do on different hours.

Please continue practicing the set 2 and 3 sounds (as these are the foundations of all reading) and  hear your children read every day - just 5 minutes will make a huge difference. And please  share a story at bed time every night.  I say saw this wonderful quote which really made me stop and think...

When we read to our children, we give them more than stories- we give them our time, our voice, our heart. In those moments, they know they matter more than anything else.

If there are any parents available to help on our next school trip please let one of Panda Class teachers know ASAP.  It will be June 17th.  Thank you

Have a super weekend x
