Wow I can’t believe the week is over already! What a short week we have had jam packed with lots of learning opportunities.
The week started with a trip to Wookey Hole which was a brilliant way to start our week of learning about dinosaurs and caves. The children were very brave and careful as they travelled through the different chambers of the cave. Then as we emerged from the cave the children had the opportunity to view some cave drawings. The dinosaurs were a big source of fascination for the children. We tried hard to identify the different ones as we walked though and had our lunch. The children then explored the mirror maze and were able to navigate themselves to the other side. The soft play was amazing for the children’s physical development skills! We went to a show and then on to play crazy golf with the pirates! It was such a great day and we had lots of tired children on the way back to school.
In our Drawing Club sessions this week the children listened to the story ‘Are the Dinosaurs Dead, Dad?’ Following on from the story the children had the opportunity to draw a dinosaur they would find in a museum, draw a dream place for a dinosaur to live and finally the children had to think about what they might see if they were an explorer when dinosaurs lived. We thought about different ideas such as they would go for a ride on a pterodactyl or see dinosaur eggs hatching and some thought they would see a volcano erupting with lava. The vocabulary from Drawing club this week was: extinct, imagination, ignore, predator, stretchy, squash, rigid and opposite.
Maths this week saw the children learning about First, then and now to add and subtract numbers using a tens frame. The children enjoyed taking away as current buns were eaten and a monkey adding more marbles to a jar. In provision the children have enjoyed using the magnetic tens frames and counters to add.
In our topic this week we looked at what a cave is and read the story cave baby. Inspired by Cave Baby’s pictures we looked at some examples of cave drawing from the stone age and all the children had a go at creating their very own cave picture. Also, in the creative area this week the children have enjoyed mixing colours using the primary colours to make secondary colours.
As you can see we have had a busy week and just in time for the weekend the weather has started to improve. I hope you have a lovely weekend.
