Friday 6th June

Welcome back to the final term!  The children have settled quickly after the break and have been working hard in all areas of their learning.

In Drawing Club this week, we have been reading the story 'Jack and the Flumflum Tree.' by Julia Donaldson.  The children really enjoyed this story and have loved coming up with their own illnesses and cures.  They have painted their own Flumflums and made paper chain vines to hang in the classroom.  Our star words for the week have been: bulgy, patchwork, determined, fierce, cure, heave, precious and gobble.

In our mathematics sessions, we have been learning about time.  We have been sequencing our day, ordering the days of the week and months of the year and using these to solve problems and we have been comparing hours, minutes and seconds.

We have started a new science topic this week, learning about materials and their properties.  On Monday, we worked together to sort objects into groups based on the materials that they are made from.  On Wednesday, we looked at objects that are made from more than one material.  We looked around the classroom to find examples of these objects and drew pictures of them, listing the materials they are made from.  On Thursday, we worked together to describe the objects using scientific properties such as transparent, opaque, stretchy, hard, sort etc.

On Tuesday, we had our first swimming lesson at the Swimarium.  All of our teachers were so proud of us and the way in which we behaved and showed great resilience.  We had fun playing with balls and other floating objects and some of us event tried out our swimming skills.  We can't wait to go again next week!

Next week:

Tuesday 10th June - swimming in the afternoon - please ensure children have their swimming costumes/trunks and a towel.

Wednesday 11th June - Longleat trip.  Children to wear their school jumpers, comfortable trousers and appropriate footwear.  Please bring a small backpack to carry lunches and ensure they have a coat in school in case of bad weather.
