We're going on a bear hunt...

This week the children have loved the story we're going on a bear hunt! The children have become very animated when reading the story and have enjoyed using actions to add to the storytelling experience. As part of our challenges in Drawing club this week the children had to draw a character, design a bear cave and think of a new way for the family to cross the river when they suddenly found out it had flooded. The vocabulary for the week included the words wandering, joyful, obstacle, courageous, tip toe, panic, flee and hide. 

In our Maths sessions we are continuing with the unit to 20 and beyond. The children have enjoyed listening to lots of different stories that encourage children to count to 20 such as One Moose Twenty Mice, 20 Big Trucks in the Middle of our street and Jack the Builder. The children have worked on counting up to 20 objects reliably. In one challenge the children had to collect the correct number of blocks and the build a model. Some of the models were very realistic. On Friday, the children enjoyed playing the missing number game. They had a number track and one child would try and trick their partner by covering at least one of the numbers. 

Topic this week saw the children learn how to use powder print and learn the rhyme dip it, dab it and mix it. There was lots of fun and exploration on the painting table that day. We were fortunate to have some baby chicks in school this week - The children enjoyed observing them for a while and waited patiently to catch a glimpse of the chicks as they preferred hiding under their mum. Finally we looked at Explorers and thought about all the equipment they would use to help them travel the world. The children have loved pretending to explore and camp out in different areas of the classroom. 

Don't forget we have our School Trip on the 6th May. Please send your child to school in clothes and footwear appropriate for the weather. They will also need a bag to carry their packed lunch and belongings.
