Friday 28th February - Honeybee Class

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful break!

What a fantastic start to Term 4 we have had in Honeybee Class.

Our learning this week has centered around the story What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson. The children have enjoyed joining in with story telling, making animal noises and joining in with repeated refrains. In addition to this the children have enjoyed making their own ladybirds using playdough, printing ladybirds using potatoes and drawing their own characters from the story.

In math's this week we have used our love of the song Ten Little Monsters (please see link below) to help us understand how to count backwards, take one away and look at small totals and say the correct amount without having to count it out. It was wonderful to see the children creating their own printed ladybirds and carefully counting out the correct total of dots.

In our topic this week we have focused on emotions and the emotion happy. We have spoken about what makes us happy, looked at different happy faces and how we can help our friends feel happy. We had lots of lovely discussions about what makes us happy. The children said family, animals, chocolate, the park and the beach and playing with their friends make them happy. In addition to this, we started our art unit on collage this week. The children learnt about horizontal and vertical lines and cut and ripped strips of paper and wallpaper to create layers of pattern. This is the start of a beautiful piece of artwork linked to our new topic Amazing Animals.
