Friday 25th April 2025

I can't believe we are entering the summer term! The children continue to amaze me with all that they are learning. It was great to welcome them back after the Easter Holidays and hear all about their break.

This week in drawing club our text was the classic Jack and the Beanstalk and the children have loved joining in with the story. It was great to hear so many convincing giants with a booming voice. The children were challenged to draw their favourite character from the story and then we had two I wonder days...the challenges on the wonder days were the giant has a new piece of treasure what is it and what do the police need to use to catch Jack? We have had lots of great drawing and it is great to see children trying really hard to write a sentence. The vocabulary this week was clambering, booming, descending, glittering, ginormous, shocking, slinking and chopping.

In our Maths learning we have had lots of counting stories such as 1-20 animals a plenty and Monster counting book 1-20. The children have enjoyed counting beyond 10 and playing games to help them know what number comes next or before. We focused on 11,12 and 13 at the start of the week and the children made collections to represent these numbers. At the end of the week the children learnt how to make a two digit number on tens frames and with the numicon.

We have looked at how plants grow and what they need to survive as part of our topic work. The children have planted a sunflower and cress seeds. We wonder who will have the tallest sunflower by the time May half term arrives. We have lots of budding artists in Kangaroo class as the children showed off their talents in our art session this week. The children had the opportunity to use ready mix paints and a variety of different sized brushes. We also challenged to think about the choices they made when they selected the colour they were going to use. The children were able to justify why they used a particular colour. In our RE sessions, the children were given a tiny bear to build a house for within a five minute time frame. The children built some great houses and then we looked at different types of houses and talked what makes their house special.

Friday saw the children participate in a sponsored silence and at random times they would have to stop and be as quiet as they could. It was the quietest I've ever heard the Kangaroos.

As you can see it has been a very busy week and I hope that all the children have a well deserved rest.

Have a lovely weekend
