Adventures with Bananaman and a fun filled visit to Fairfield Animal Centre
This week we used the animation, Bananaman for drawing club. It was a hit with the children and they enjoyed watching as Bananaman defeated Dr Gloom and turned him into a baby. On Monday, the children had the opportunity to create their own character or draw Bananaman. Tuesday, was the challenge to draw a house for one of the characters and on Wednesday the children had to design a ray gun and decide what happened when a person was blasted with the rays. The vocabulary choices for this week were gloomy, unconvincing, gulp, muscular, searching, befuddled and victorious.
Doubles was the focus for maths alongside odd and even numbers. We have revisited number bonds to 10 but extended this to include three parts. The children are becoming more confident to recognise which number is an odd or even number this was helped by the use of numicon. Some even chose to make an odd or even monster as part of their child initiated learning.
In our topic sessions this week the children learnt about Palm Sunday and listened to the start of the Easter Story. We looked at how animals are different or similar and children were able to spot similarities and differences. We discussed the environment in which the animals live and why a polar bear lives in the arctic circle and not the jungle. Children were able to give some good guesses as to what different animals might eat.
In our PE lessons, the children have been practising their skills in a dance unit. This week the children were thinking about fireworks. They learnt a dance - Take a look at the video to see their moves.

Friday saw us visit Fairfield Animal Centre and it was an amazing day out. The children enjoyed feeding the greedy goats and other animals. We got to step inside the guinea pig and rabbit enclosures and all children could hold an animal if they wished to do so. We went through the woodland walk, but there was no sign of the Gruffalo but we do think we found Owl's treetop house and Snake's log pile house. After visiting, feeding and petting the animals the children showed off their physical development skills on the adventure play park. I was impressed with their climbing abilities. We had a fantastic day out.
Have a restful weekend and hopefully some lovely weather.
