Friday 16th May

What a lovely week we have had in Bumblebee class!

In our drawing club this week, we have been reading the story 'What the ladybird heard.'  The book is about a ladybird who overhears how two men, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len, plan to steal the fine prize cow and how the animals work together to stop them.   We have drawn pictures of the key characters, drawn maps of the farm, thought about ways that we could trap Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len and drawn pictures about what else these two men might want to steal if they had been to the seaside instead of a farm.  Our star words for the week have been: hefty, lanky, revolting, dainty, cunning, golly gosh, dead of night and crept.  We have talked about the meaning of these words and have tried to use them in our writing.

In maths, we have been busy learning to recognise and find half of a quantity.  We have also been busy finding quarter of a shape or object.  We know that when you cut something in half it must have two equal parts and when you cut something into quarters it must have four equal parts.

In our geography topic, we have been on a walk around Westbury looking for human and physical features of our local area.  We found that there were far more human features than physical features on our walk.  We think this is because we live in a town.   We have also been learning about the four compass points and have used these to help us give directions on our own treasure maps.
