Wow! We have had a fabulous first full week of school.
The children are settling in really well and adjusting to the new full-time timetable. It has been a joy to watch new friendships forming, and there have been so many memorable moments where the children have shown off their skills during child-initiated play.

This week we started our Squiggle Whilst You Wiggle sessions. The children loved making big movements and then using these movements to create patterns on paper. We also danced along to Dancing Queen by ABBA—the children were fantastic at remembering the sequence of movements!

The children were introduced to Poetry Basket, where they will learn a new poem each week. We will continue this next week. At the end of the week, we explored Helicopter Stories. In this session, the children worked as a class to retell different stories. Next week, they will have the chance to tell their own story to an adult, which the class will then act out together. Today’s stories included dinosaurs, unicorns, and even a mission to space—it was lots of fun!

In Maths this week, the children were introduced to subitising—“See the amount, don’t count.” We explored some fun dice games to practise this skill. In the first game, the children rolled a dice and, depending on the number, shared information with the class about themselves, such as their favourite food, TV programme, or toy. Later in the week, we played Subitising Three in a Row. The children rolled a dice, placed a counter on the number rolled, and the first player to get three in a row was the winner. You can practise subitising at home by downloading the One Minute Maths App by White Rose. Follow this link for more information:

We also began our Read Write Inc sessions this week, focusing on the picture side of the cards. The links below will support the children’s learning (these are the same as those emailed out earlier):

In our Topic sessions, we read The Colour Monster and explored how different feelings can be linked to colours. The children were able to identify how the Colour Monster was feeling and suggest ways we could help to change those feelings.

As you can see, we have had a very busy week, and I’m sure the children are ready for a well-deserved rest.

Have a lovely, restful weekend!

Hopefully you have received the message about PE days changing your child will need to come to school in their PE kit on Tuesday and Thursday.
